SC orders formation of judicial commission to probe APS carnage

APS attack.
The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered the formation of a judicial commissionto probe the 2014 Army Public School (APS)carnage in Peshawar.
The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, tasked the commission to submit its report within six weeks after conducting a ‘through’ investigation. The commission will be led by the chief justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC).
In one of the deadliest terrorattacks in the country’s history, at least 144 people, mostly students, were killed when militants stormed the army-run school in Peshawar.
Expressing his bewilderment at the delay, Justice Nisar questioned why the commission had not been formed as he had ordered the same during his earlier visit to Peshawar.
“I am sorry for the delay in investigation,” the chief justice said while addressing the parents of the APS attack victims. “I will visit Army Public School myself.”
Justice Nisar also assured the parents of the victims that he will resolve all hurdles and issues faced pertaining to the case and will visit the school in the upcoming weeks.
The parents expressed their gratitude at the bench’s decision.
Before concluding the hearing, Justice Nisar asked the parents to list the issues they have faced in their pursuit of justice in the APS carnage case.
