PTI nominates Imran Khan as its prime minister candidate

ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s parliamentary committee officially nominated party chairman Imran Khan for the office of prime minister.
The confirmation came after a meeting of the party’s lawmakers in Islamabad. Reportedly, the party’s vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been finalised for speaker position of National Assembly speaker, succeeding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Ayaz Sadiq.
The resolution to nominate Imran for Pakistan’s next prime minister was tabled by Qureshi and was unanimously approved by the meeting.
PTI’s Imran Ismail and Naeemul Haque are reportedly in the running for the slot of governor Sindh after Mohammad Zubair resigned earlier after being nominated in 2017.
Imran to be formally nominated as PM today
It was learnt earlier that PTI’s parliamentary committee, scheduled to meet today, will formally endorse PTI chief Imran Khan’s nomination for the post of prime minister. All newly-elected MNAs and senators were asked to attend the meeting.
A party spokesperson said that the meeting had been called for holding a ‘general discussion’ among parliamentarians. PTI’s spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that the party would formally announce Imran’s nomination for the post of PM.
Members of the meeting, he said, would also discuss the post-election domestic political scenario.
