Viral photo reveals Captain Safdar ‘hiding’ in cave with suitcase, guns before arrest

ISLAMABAD – A picture circulating on social media has shown former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, Captain (retd) Safdar hiding in a cave near Mansehra following conviction in the Avenfield case before surrendering to authorities in Rawalpindi.
On Friday, an accountability court sentenced the son-in-law of the former premier to one year in jail for cheating while announcing the verdict in a corruption reference pertaining to Sharif family’s Avenfield apartment in London, UK.
After the verdict, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced his surrender but he had gone underground Saturday night to escape arrest after the NAB teams swang into action.
The undated picture reportedly shared by aides of Safdar showed Safdar sitting on the ground along with his friend while a small suitcase and two guns can also be seen in the background.
The PML-N sources claimed that Safdar left the cave on Sunday morning to reach Rawalpindi by the infrequent Chappar Road, which linked Lassan Nawab area of Mansehra with Haripur, Dawn News reported.
However, a local leader of the PML-N in Mansehra has denied the stay of Safdar in a cave, besides claiming that he had gone straight to Rawalpindi from his hometown for court arrest.
